The Base

The St. Croix YWAM base is a notional historical monument that was once a sugar mill plantain built in 1806 and has several ruins from the original buildings. The base is located almost exactly in the center of the island. We are near the hospital and hear sirens often.

Bug spray is a priority here. The mosquitos are smaller but more aggressive than the Alaskan insects and can spread several viruses.

The gate is closed at night and guard dogs are let out.

The water tower that is now home to hundreds of bats.

(See video of bats inside the tower here)

One of my favorite spots on the base.

The trailer home for our family.

YES! There's a pool outside the cafeteria!
